2. Severe or Sudden Pain

A sudden, intense headache—often called a “thunderclap headache”—may signal a serious condition like bleeding in the brain and requires immediate emergency care.

3. Headaches With Neurological Symptoms

Seek help if headaches are accompanied by symptoms such as:

  • Blurred or double vision

  • Weakness or numbness in the face or limbs

  • Difficulty speaking or understanding speech

  • Confusion or loss of consciousness

4. Headaches That Don’t Respond to Medication

If over-the-counter painkillers or prescribed medication fail to provide relief, a specialist can recommend advanced treatment options.
